Notes on Mobile Device Synchronization with Windows Vista
In Windows XP, many users relied on ActiveSync. Microsoft has now replaced the ActiveSync tool with the new Windows Mobile Device Center. It should be noted that many people have had issues with the new WMDC platform. In order to assist you in your migration and setting up of synchronization, please keep the following in mind:
- First, plug your device in and allow the driver to install*. Windows most likely will need to load Windows Updates to complete the driver install.
- Second, download and install the Windows Mobile Device Center once your device's drivers have been installed. WMDC can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx
- Once you have installed the WMDC, if all has worked, you should now be able to set up your device's synchronization settings.
* Some FAQs and message boards are suggesting that users install WMDC before plugging in their device, however; Microsoft advises to install the device first.
